Making homemade dog treats is surprisingly simple, a task similar to designing cut-out cookies. While wheat flour is a typical ingredient in most biscuit recipes, some dogs have digestive issues or even allergies to wheat, so exchange brown or white rice flour to give your dog a delicious snack.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

Step 1

Spray a cookie sheet with baking spray and set it aside; preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2

Place the peanut butter in the bowl. Add the pumpkin puree, mashed sweet potato or applesauce. Stir in the milk and the rice flour. Combine the ingredients with a wooden spoon until they are thoroughly mixed into a dough.

Step 3

Sprinkle rice flour onto the cutting board or counter top. Place the dough on the flour and knead it for a minute. Roll and pat it into a ball.

Step 4

Roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness with a rolling pin. Use a cookie cutter to make the biscuit shape of your choice. Place the cut-out biscuits onto the cookie sheet.

Step 5

Place the cookie tray into the oven and bake the treats for 10 to 15 minutes. The edges will turn brown, and the surface will crack slightly.

Step 6

Remove the tray from the oven. Allow the biscuits to cool on the tray for a few minutes before removing them to a wire rack with a spatula.

White Cream Cheese Icing

Step 1

Put the softened cream cheese, oil and honey into a mixing bowl and stir until they are thoroughly mixed.

Step 2

Use a knife to spread the doggie "icing" onto your cut-out biscuit treats; set them back on the wire racks to air-dry. The icing will become firm.

Step 3

Store the extra biscuits in an airtight container in your pantry. Refrigerate or freeze the biscuits to keep them fresh for a longer period of time.
